Vermont School District Spending & Outcomes — 130 Districts

Explore Vermont's 130 school districts — town, union and joint districts, 24 of which operate no school and pay tuition for their pupils — with original Vermont Department of Taxes, Agency of Education (AOE), U.S. Census Bureau, federal Civil Rights Data Collection and NCES sources. Directory identities are from NCES 2023–24, joined to AOE by AOE's own district code; not a current operating-status certification. Vermont pays for schools through one statewide Education Fund: each district page shows every member town's homestead and nonhomestead education tax rates and common level of appraisal from FY2012 to FY2027 (and, from FY2026, the statewide adjustment the Department divides the CLA by), joined to districts by town name through AOE's roster of member towns — the Department's school code is its own town number, not AOE's district code. A rate is not a bill: most homestead owners pay according to household income, so no bill is estimated. Spending is AOE's budgeted education spending per equalized pupil (FY2012–FY2024) and per long-term weighted pupil (FY2025–FY2026), two definitions never joined; it is the district of residence's and includes tuition paid for its students elsewhere. Actual finances are the federal Census F-33 for fiscal 2024. Staffing and salaries (FY2008–FY2026 from two AOE reports that number jobs differently, matched by job; superintendent and principal positions included, each with its FTE), four-, five- and six-year graduation and dropout rates, and chronic-absence counts for all students and each AOE student group are reported for supervisory unions and schools, and are shown as the supervisory union's, never divided among its districts; a supervisory union's own Census spending is shown the same way. Enrollment is AOE's fall census. Chronic absence is published as counts only, with no rate. Advanced Placement, dual enrollment and suspensions are federal CRDC 2023–24. Education Quality Standards ratings are AOE's own, from its 2024–25 Annual Snapshot: point values on a 1–5 scale for English language arts, mathematics and science, shown for schools and supervisory unions beside AOE's definition — ratings, not proficiency rates, and not comparable with other states. Free or reduced-price lunch and race/ethnicity shares and exclusionary-discipline counts by incident type are AOE's Vermont Education Dashboard datasets, to 2020–21. Statewide assessment results are AOE's share of students proficient or above by grade (Smarter Balanced for English language arts and math and the VTSA for science through 2021–22, VTCAP from 2022–23 — AOE says the two tests' rates are not directly comparable, so each is its own series), on each school page for all students and for each AOE student group (2017–18 to 2024–25), and for the supervisory union (all students 2023–24 and 2024–25; by student group for the VTCAP years); AOE prints 0.0 for a group with nobody tested, which is not a result and is not shown. Race and ethnicity for 2024–25 are the federal NCES Common Core of Data's, never joined to AOE's shares; NCES's free and reduced-price lunch file is not used (universal school meals make it 100% everywhere), and no low-income share after 2020–21 is derived. Withheld figures do not mean zero.
