Michigan School District Spending & Outcomes — 822 Districts & Academies

Explore Michigan's 822 local education agencies — 536 local school districts and 286 public school academies (charter schools) — with original Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI), Department of Treasury and NCES sources. Directory identities and agency status are from NCES 2024–25, joined to CEPI by its five-digit district code. Spending is MDE's Bulletin 1014 General Fund per pupil by function for FY2021–FY2025 (MDE's own figures; a 0 there means missing, so none is shown), with CEPI's FY2025 Financial Information Database line items (reported actuals, not a budget) and General Fund balance from Bulletin 1011. School funding follows Proposal A: the state sets each district's foundation allowance and the 18-mill non-homestead operating levy, which is shown as the state's rate and never compared between districts; the local school tax is the millage voters approve — sinking fund, debt retirement and recreation — from Treasury's millage reports. Hold-harmless and intermediate school district millages are not in those reports and are not shown yet. Public school academies levy no tax. Staffing is CEPI's Registry of Educational Personnel FTE and MDE's official average teacher salary with the FTE behind it; Michigan publishes no central superintendent or principal salary file. Students are CEPI's Fall 2024 headcount and economically disadvantaged counts (Fall 2024 and Fall 2025; an exact 100% or 0% building share is withheld). Graduation is CEPI's adjusted-cohort rate; a rate on a cohort CEPI prints as under 10 is withheld. State test results and chronic absence are published by MI School Data only by request, not in bulk, so they are not shown. The 56 intermediate school districts and 4 state agencies are listed below with their buildings. Each field retains its source period. Withheld figures do not mean zero.
