Wisconsin School District Spending & Outcomes — 446 Districts

Explore Wisconsin's 446 public school districts and independent charter school agencies (25 of them charter agencies) with original Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and NCES sources. Directory identities are from NCES 2024–25, joined to DPI by DPI's own agency code; not a current operating-status certification. Cost per member is DPI's comparative cost for 2023–24 and 2024–25, divided by DPI's aid membership, not enrollment, and never recomputed; DPI leaves Norris and the independent charter agencies out of it. The accounts are each district's audited Annual Report to DPI for 2023–24 and 2024–25, by fund and function (spending) and fund and source (revenue); custodial and trust (fiduciary) funds are left out because they hold money for others and are not district spending, and a negative general-fund balance is withheld until it is checked against the district's audit report. School taxes are DPI's equalized levy rates and levies by fund from 2005–06 to 2025–26, each rate tagged by district type: a K-8 or union high school district's rate is only part of a property's school tax and is never ranked against a K-12 district's rate. A rate is not a bill, and no bill is estimated. The revenue limit worksheet is DPI's survey from 2011–12. Referenda are every question in DPI's School District Referenda Report since 1990, by type, with amounts as DPI recorded them and never added across types; a question on the November 3, 2026 ballot carries no result until its result is reported to DPI and published here. Salaries are DPI's average teacher salary and fringe from 2016–17; each superintendent (district administrator) as one position, by title and never by name, with its FTE and total salary across all assignments, a district with two in a year showing each separately; and principals as a count with a median computed by DistrictFacts from DPI's rows, a lone principal as one position, and no median where there are exactly two. Report card results are DPI's full-academic-year share Meeting or Advanced from 2023–24, when the Forward Exam's cut scores were reset, in whole percents; graduation is shown with its cohort size. Cooperative educational service agencies and county children-with-disabilities education boards are accounted for but have no page in this release. Withheld figures do not mean zero.
